Tip #1377: Open Advanced Find in tab

I truly hope that one of the traits that differentiate me from, say, an ungrateful baboon, is ability to recognise when I’m wrong and apologise to Jeff Klosinski who sent not one but two tips an EFFING YEAR AGO and I haven’t published it.

In my defense I couldn’t reproduce either. But you know how can you tell a good tip? It stands the test of time. Today I went back, played a bit and discovered that when combined, those two tips just like sodium and water produce kapow! of one powerful trick.

Have you ever been annoyed by Advanced Find opening in a separate window is kind of like:

I don’t wanna play with ju, the rest of you filthy Unified Interface windows

Advanced Find

Guess what happens when you CTRL+Click that coveted funnel? That’s right, Advanced Find opens in a separate tab. W00t! After you found what you’re looking for, CTRL+Click on that record or right-mouse click for an odd looking menu to open the target in yet another tab.

Thank you, Jeff!

For me it only works in Chrome, not Firefox.
    Anyway, thanks for the tip!

In Firefox, try flipping the “Open links in tabs instead of new windows” to true. In Chrome and Edge, I have to use the extension called “Open link in same tab, pop-up as tab” (otherwise ctrl+click opens in new windows).

    Good trick!

This also works when you are customizing, e.g. when you want to open a solution, a form, a view, a field, etc.

    CTRL+Click does the jeb!

It works on every record like that. Say Categorized Search for an account returns related contacts, CTRL & Click with your mouse and get it opened as a separate tab. Done it in MS Edge

some browsers likes the CTRL + SHIFT + Click, try that if you run into issues

This is amazing but then I was so disappointed as I do most of my development in Firefox where this little snippet doesn’t perform, any ideas anyone. Having this new found piece of knowledge i want to use it. Particularly as I spend half my life copying the url for the solution into the tab to work there

I use FX for dev too. In Options, do you see one called “Open links in tabs instead of new windows”? Flip that to yes. All Ctrl+Clicks open in new tabs for me, and I don’t believe any of my extensions are responsible, I think it’s that option.
